Chitwan National Park accommodation - Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge

Situated in Chitwan's buffer zone near the river, Tharu Lodge is owned and managed by the famous Tiger Tops group who set up the first camp in the jungle here before it was even declared a national park. No accommodation is permitted inside the national park these days and though Tharu is too far from the park entry gate for safaris in the core zone, it continues to offer the best wildlife experience in Chitwan.

Staying here means you are far from the crowds and your wildlife safari is a relaxed experience. Your stay here is personalised on your arrival so that you can include safaris in foot and by boat as well as by jeep. The elephant interaction here is all part of the experience and the mahouts will be happy for you to join their resident pachyderms at bathing and feeding times. Bullokc cart rides and visits to Tharu villages for an insight into local life in the Terai can also be arranged depending on your interest.

The lodge is fairly rustic but its simplicity is part of its charm and it has everything you need from a wilderness retreat; 12 basically but comfortably furnished fan-cooled rooms and 12 safari tents have en-suite shower rooms with water heated by solar panels. The lodge grows its own organic vegetables and freshly prepared meals are served al fresco under the shade of a tree or on your verandha. Between safaris you can take a dip in the swimming pool, enjoy a game of tennis or flop in a hammock.
